SGDD-ASAM offers free social and legal counselling services and psychosocial support to all refugee and asylum-seeking groups through its 30 field offices operating in 35 provinces, and support them in following up their case processes at UNHCR. SGDD-ASAM also provides interpreter support for refugees and asylum-seekers for overcoming the language barrier and contacts local authorities and non-governmental organizations in order to strengthen the local protection mechanisms.
SGDD-ASAM also operates in such fields as developing solutions to the problems that increase in parallel with irregular border crossings from Turkey to Europe; providing support in meeting the basic needs of the persons intercepted or rescued during irregular migration and offering counselling services regarding their Access to asylum rights particularly through its offices located in Edirne, Kırklareli, Balıkesir, Çanakkale, İzmir, Aydın and Muğla.
SGDD-ASAM offers its services through social workers, field workers, lawyers, psychologists, support staff and interpreters in its field offices and provides assistance such as basic relief items and e-voucher cards to the refugees to cover their basic needs and also stationery kits to encourage refugee children to go to school.
The offices operating in Afyon, Amasya, Çorum, Kastamonu, Isparta, Burdur, Gaziantep, Konya, Karaman, Niğde, Nevşehir, Tokat, Kayseri, Kırşehir, Denizli and Samsun are funded by UNHCR and those field offices opened by
SGDD-ASAM in 2017 in six more provinces supported within the scope of the European Union’s Instrument Contributing to Stability and Peace started to offer their services to refugees and asylum-seekers in Bolu, Yozgat, Uşak, Aksaray, Trabzon and Sivas where particularly non-Syrian refugees and asylum-seekers are densely populated.
